Analysis of Digipaks

From completing this task I know which key aspects I need to incorporate in my digipak in order for it to be successful amongst my target market. These include a front cover, a back cover, lyrics from the songs, artist/music information, a disk panel and interior designs. This will help me create product which is visually appealing as well as appropriately informative. When making my digipak I will need to consider additional factors such as eco-friendly packaging material, innovative designs which reflect both the artist and genre of music as well as bonus features such as additional tracks - all of which will encourage customers to buy the physical product instead of downloading it online.

Music Video Research

From researching existing music websites, I have a greater understanding of ways in which artists market themselves online. Each website suggested the artist's genre of music or was representative of their last album. This makes it visually appealing and recognisable for the fans and encourages new audiences to become invested in their music. I also found minimalistic graphics were also very effective as they encouraged a wider dynamic to look further into the website and learn more about the artist and their music. When creating my own website I will need to consider aspects of mine en scene as well as colours, layout, information and typefaces. I've also noticed that many websites have a minimalistic home page where there are options to find out more information on the artist and their music. Using clear logos and photography also looked very effective on the sites I looked at so I will consider following a similar layout on my own project.

The History Of Music Videos

Researching the history of music videos has helped me gain a greater understanding of the ways in which music videos have evolved and revolutionised since the 1920s. For my project I will consider both narrative and performance aspects, considering the ways they have adapted over the past twenty years and the success of this film style. Learning the ways music videos have been and currently are presented has also given me an insight as to which platform is most successful as well as the target audience of each software and hardware.

Lip-syncing Task

From filming and editing this video, I have learnt what I will need to do in order to my the lip syncing in my music video realistic. I found that the most significant factor which effects the overall outcome of the video was the timing and emphasis of mouthing the lyrics. Getting the precise synchronisation with the music made it seem more professional, therefore we made sure to always play the music in the background so we could later edit it more exactly to the song. I also noticed in music videos artists over exaggerate their words. This gives a stronger illusion that they are actually singing the song during performance shots. Using this technique also helped us when shooting our video as it gives it more realism. Using a range of shots, locations and angles as well as match on action made the video much more interesting and intriguing for viewers, therefore I will use what I've learnt from this task to help improve the performance aspect of my music video.
